Supertitles appeared in the early 80's, in opera performances, replacing the libretto that the audience used till that time during the play. It was a precious innovation which upgraded the way the spectator comprehenced the play, and thus enjoying it more.

Since then, the supertitling technology has evolved. New types of monitors, projectors and control systems came along, creating a whole new branch in the culture era, directly connected to the success of live performances in their entirety.

Supertitles in performances played in foreign languages, today are regarded to be of highest importance, thus the professionals in this area have more and more created their own standards.

In Greece, choices being of high quality exist, but they are still few. Usually, producers end up in "PowerPoint"-systems or alike, which soon reveal their limits.

• What is needed is a supertitling system, developed especially for this work. All details must have been studied and analyzed in real action, in real performances. This system, finally, must have a rich background and provide experience in many and complex circumstances.
  
• Furthermore, what is needed is the hardware used for the projection. It must be trustworthy and dependable. Cheap and rouch solutions might drive the performace in its entirety to a failure. Careness is needed in selecting the best equipment.
  
• Finally, what is needed is a perfect and robust preprocessing in the text to be projected. That's because the content of any performance is the Word, the "logos" in both the literary and the aesthetic dimension. Text translation and text pre-proccesing as well ar vital elements of the performance, and should not be overlooked.
